As for the content, the author's objective is to provide a (unbiased?) defence of Balaam. In this respect I feel the author did a good job. Although he does not ignore Balaam's faults, he struggles to show that Balaam was a true prophet comparable to others we have learned to esteem. To highlight the humane side of Balaam, the author compares him to othe Bible characters such as Jacob, Saul, Jonah, Peter and Paul. The text is a bit verbose (end of 19th Sentury) but certainly it is a rofitable and one of the rare commentaries on Balaam.
